President

Leading a collegiate cycling organization requires much more than organizing rides. I help coordinate the people, logistics, finances, travel, communication, and long-term direction that allow the club to support riders across multiple disciplines and experience levels.

What I lead

  • Coordinate race travel, lodging, scheduling, and team logistics across collegiate competition.
  • Help manage club finances, planning, and the operational decisions needed to support athletes.
  • Maintain and improve the club's online presence, including the GT Cycling website and Instagram , along with calendar infrastructure.
  • Work with officers and riders to strengthen the community around both competitive and recreational cycling.

Propulsion Lead

Technical leadership meant owning the propulsion subsystem while making sure it stayed aligned with the aircraft as a whole. I was responsible not only for making sound engineering decisions, but also for organizing testing, communicating across subteams, and keeping propulsion work moving as requirements changed.

How I led

  • Directed propulsion modeling, configuration selection, validation, and flight-test priorities.
  • Coordinated with other subteams as aircraft mass, packaging, and mission requirements evolved.
  • Maintained backup propulsion configurations so the team could react quickly to changing design constraints.
  • Helped turn propulsion from a prior weakness into a subsystem supporting 1st-place flight performance.

Coming from a Title I high school, I wanted to create a space for students to explore engineering outside of the classroom, and my NASA Zero-G experiment was a great way to kickstart the initiative. From drones, Arduinos, and engineering competitions, I created a program that continued to thrive even after I graduated.

Building from zero

  • Identified the need for a new engineering community and developed the initial vision for the organization.
  • Recruited early members and built the structure needed to establish a sustainable student group.
  • Coordinated organizational requirements, planning, and communication needed to move from idea to operation.
  • Established a foundation that could outlast the original founding team.

Coaching has taught me a different kind of leadership: how to explain technical skills clearly, recognize what another person needs, and help athletes improve without simply telling them what to do. It requires patience, trust, safety awareness, and communication under pressure.

Developing others

  • Teach BMX technique in a way that adapts to different ages, experience levels, and learning styles.
  • Emphasize safe progression while helping riders build speed, confidence, and racecraft.
  • Translate years of competitive experience into clear, actionable feedback for developing athletes.
  • Help riders recover from mistakes and approach improvement as a repeatable process.
